The Mountain Goats theorize who’s The Last Jedi in unofficial theme song
Speculation abounds regarding just who The Last Jedi is, or what that moniker means for the next Star Wars movie. Franchise stars Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley have been absolutely no help, despite Josh Gad’s best efforts. But, after noticing that his Han Solo movie counterparts are teasing their film, Episode VIII director Rian Johnson has decided to drop a few breadcrumbs for fans. He’s just shared an unofficial theme song written by the Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle. The song, titled “The Ultimate Jedi Who Wastes All The Other Jedi And Eats Their Bones,” muses on the calcium-craving ways of the Last Jedi, a cannibalistic sort.
There’s a lullaby quality to the track that pairs well with all the bone eating—and children’s songs are so often thematically creepy. As Darnielle tells it, he joked about the song while talking with Johnson about the new Star Wars movie, but the director wasn’t about to let him off the hook—and now it’s “canon.” If only directors took our crackpot suggestions so seriously.
