Going to spend a long weekend with your parents and your partner can be a nightmare. The trailer for The Parenting takes that literally. What initially positions itself as a classic meet-the-parents style awkward weekend gives way to a haunted house comedy. “I’m stuck in a haunted house with my fucking parents!” screams Josh (Brandon Flynn), explaining the premise as simply as anyone could.
Mostly, though, the trailer is an excuse to see a bunch of television’s most beloved stars engage in potty humor and say the kinds of words you can’t say on NBC. Someone walks in on Edie Falco on the toilet. Dean Norris sticks his finger in a small dog’s rectum to get it to stop biting Lisa Kudrow’s arm. An apparently butt-naked Brian Cox demands everyone in the room stare at his penis while Norris comments that it’s “hard as a rock.” The trailer actually plays this joke twice. Parker Posey is also here, but doesn’t get very much to do in the 150 second clip.
The Parenting is directed by Craig Johnson (Skeleton Key, Special) and written by Kent Sublette (Saturday Night Live). Nik Dodani and Vivian Bang also round out the cast. The film debuts directly on Max on March 13.
