The Producers Guild couldn't decide between 12 Years A Slave and Gravity either
The practice of using the Producers Guild Awards to predict who will win at the Oscars won’t be any help in this unusually uncertain year. Last night, Gravity and 12 Years A Slave were both crowned Best Picture in the guild’s first-ever tie—and so the category that’s correctly predicted the way the Academy would vote for the past six years may be useful for declaring those two the frontrunners, perhaps, but it's not especially helpful for office pool purposes. Or, as Deadline put it, everyone went into the ceremony hoping for clarity, but “instead we got chaos,” wrote the site about this mathematical split decision, in a contest to declare a movie the favorite of a group of wealthy people in tuxedos.
