The Weeknd is getting his own comic book from Marvel
The Weeknd sort of dipped his toe into the Marvel Universe with an appearance on the excellent Black Panther soundtrack, but now he’s making this thing official with his very own comic book from Marvel. According to a press release, the comic will be called The Weeknd Presents: Starboy, and it will be “based on” his hit song of the same name (even though the only connection seems to be that the book, like the song, centers on a guy who is a motherfuckin’ Starboy).
Written by The Weeknd himself, La Mar Taylor, and Christos Gage, with art by Eric Nguyen and Guru-eFX, the book will be about a city called Alphatron that is being terrorized by a veritable kingpin of crime called The Chef who rules over all other criminal organizations and also likes to eat the people he kills. Luckily, a guy named Starboy who happens to look like hit recording artist The Weeknd is here to save the day, even if Marvel’s official description say he’s not a “hero.” We don’t know if Daft Punk will show up to provide a cool hook like in the song, but since this doesn’t seem to take place in the normal Marvel Universe, at least they won’t have to worry about fighting off Ultron if they do.
The first issue of Starboy will be available on June 13.
