Tracy Morgan is getting back into the Tina Fey business with new pilot

NBC has heard the Siren Song of “Night Cheese,” calling the Peacock, Tracy Morgan, and Tina Fey back to Rockefeller Center. Deadline reports that NBC has ordered a new pilot from Tracy Morgan and his 30 Rock cohorts Tiny Fey, Robert Carlock, and Sam Means. While the show won’t feature a pack of wolves opening and successfully operating a Wendy’s franchise, it will be run by Fey and Carlock, who wrote the pilot with Means, and star Morgan, who will executive produce, too. The show isn’t a 30 Rock spin-off or sequel series, but it does have a familiar setup. Morgan will play a disgraced former football player looking to rehabilitate his image, presumably after he was caught playing Star Wars in traffic.

The single-cam series marks the first pilot from NBC this season and could be turned into Must See TV sooner than later. However, it’s been some time since NBC had a show from Carlock and Fey that they wanted to keep on the air. Both Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Girls5eva spent some time under the Peacock’s multi-colored umbrella before cancellation and subsequent revival on Netflix. If they don’t like this one, there’s always the prospect of being swallowed up and forgotten on Netflix. In the meantime, we can resume living every week like it’s Shark Week.
