Dominic West acts out another acrimonious split in teaser for HBO's War

Dominic West knows a thing or two about doing a highly public, deeply acrimonious divorce—or, at least, a thing or two about playing one out in a TV series. The actor, who starred in the later seasons of The Crown as Prince Charles right as his marriage to Elizabeth Debecki’s Diana hit the fan, is about to have his character’s name and reputation dragged through the mud yet again with War. The new HBO series from writer George Kay, who counts Hijack and Killing Eve on his resume, finds West’s tech entrepreneur Morgan Henderson in a bitter divorce battle with international film star Carla Duval, played by Sienna Miller. HBO revealed a first teaser for the series this morning, as well as a premiere date of October 1.

But, as the plot synopsis from HBO suggests, this War will be as much about the law firms ginning up the conflict as it is about the clients themselves. War is described as  a high-stakes, legal drama following the lives of London’s most powerful lawyers as firms Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne clash over a headline-grabbing legal battle, drawing ambitious young lawyer Jonathan “Johnny” Warren (Archie Renaux) into a ruthless world where ambition is currency, betrayal is strategy, and winning is everything,” according to a synopsis. And whoever wins, there’ll be more battles on the horizon; War is already greenlit for a second season, which will follow Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald, and David Harewood in some kind of defamation case. That season is currently in production.
