Weekend box office: violence beats violence plus funnies

A pretty tepid weekend at the movies left Disturbia on top for the second week in a row, taking in about $13.5 million. Two new thrillers, Fracture and Vacancy, failed to shake things up much, landing modestly in second and fourth place, respectively. Blades Of Glory predictably stuck it out well, moving down a space to third, and Meet The Robinsons wound up in fifth, but otherwise, the boyish, pity-drawing faces of Shia LaBeouf and Luke Wilson seem to have cooled the appetite for, er, thriller-comedy. Hot Fuzz debuted in sixth, with a $5.8 million take, but that's at least enough to keep the Shaun Of The Dead folks above mere cult success in the States.
