What's on TV this week—Chad Powers and The Gentlemen return for season 2

New this week 

Furious (Hulu, Monday, season one finale) The neo-noir moodiness and dark humor of this Liz Meriwether-created psychological thriller have been a surprise treat of the summer streaming season. Its tense cat-and-mouse chase between traumatized FBI agent Alice Black (Emmy Rossum) and calculating serial killer Catherine Grace (Lola Petticrew) comes to an end in this week’s eighth and final episode—or does it? Hulu has renewed the hit crime thriller for a second season, so there’s even more murderous territory to come. Look out for The A.V. Club’s finale recap on Monday. 

Chad Powers (Hulu, Thursday, season two premiere) No matter how tightly those prosthetics are glued on, Russ Holliday’s secret identity is slipping up in season two of the Glen Powell-led sports comedy. Across six episodes (which all drop on Hulu on September 3), “Chad” will have to navigate increasing suspicions from the likes of Coach Hudson (Steve Zahn) and rival quarterback Gerry (Colton Ryan), all while leading the South Georgia Catfish toward the College Football Playoff. He’ll find help both on and off the field from an unlikely source: Ricky (Perry Mattfield), the coach’s daughter. 

The Gentlemen (Netflix, Thursday, season two premiere) Season two of this Guy Ritchie action-comedy picks up with Theo James’s Eddie Horniman  expanding the weed empire he inherited at the end of season one. He’s no longer a cog in the criminal machine, instead working overseas alongside Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) and dealing with Bobby’s (Ray Winstone) increasingly erratic business choices. While bringing their groovy enterprise from the English countryside to northern Italy, Eddie is pulled into the ruthless orbit of Italian crime boss Marco Moretti (Sergio Castellitto) and his savvy fixer Cico Maldini (Michele Morrone), and soon he’ll really see the dangers of his ambition. The A.V. Club’s season two review arrives on Thursday.
