Wonder Woman 1984 moves to June 2020

We’ve got some good news and some bad news about Wonder Woman 1984. First, the good: the Patty Jenkins-directed sequel is still happening, and it’s shaping up to be a summer blockbuster! Additionally, if you were planning to take a trip to some remote part of the world in November 2019, you no longer have to worry about squeezing a quick trip to the movie theater. And now the not-terrible-but-not-good news: the film’s release date has just been pushed back to June 6, 2020.

This comes from Entertainment Weekly, which notes that Warner Bros. and franchise star Gal Gadot have tried to put a positive spin on the rescheduling. First, the studio issued a press release that said the “tremendous success” of the first movie’s summer rollout prompted it to “take advantage of the changing competitive landscape… This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.” Gadot echoed that preference for a summer date on Twitter:

So everyone just relax, because June 2020 has a much nicer ring to it than November 2019 (not to mention that the summer weather will be much more accommodating to your Wonder Woman cosplay). If you absolutely must go to the movies next November, though, you can watch Warner Bros.’ Six Million Dollar Man adaptation instead. As for Wonder Woman 1984, the film, which also stars Chris Pine and Kristen Wiig, will now share a release month with another ’80s-fueled sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.
