Activision’s Skylanders TV show is coming to Netflix
Thanks to the wonders of corporate mergers, Activision Blizzard controls some of the biggest brands in all of video gaming. That’s why the idea of the studio launching its own production company is so exciting. Oh sure, the Warcraft movie was a little lousy, but it’s still fun to think about the possibility of movies or TV shows based on stuff like Call Of Duty, Destiny, Starcraft, Overwatch, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. For its first official TV project, though, Activision Blizzard Studios is making Skylanders Academy, an adaptation of its ridiculously popular toys-to-life brand, with Futurama writer Eric Rogers running the show.
Now, thanks to Wired, we know a little bit more about that project. For starters, the animated series will feature voices from Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, and Jonathan Banks. On top of that, the show has also been picked up by Netflix, and it’s set to debut at some point in the fall. Also, in case a TV show about the game that requires parents to buy physical monster toys for their kids isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, Wired says that a Call Of Duty movie is in the works for 2018. Presumably, it’ll be a standard war story, but with the enemy soldiers’ voices overdubbed by screaming pre-teens who just discovered swear words.
