Adam Sandler, David Spade, and Paula Patton making whatever for Netflix

After The Ridiculous Six greatly offended Native Americans by squandering all that “manifest destiny” stuff on making Adam Sandler movies—among other things—the mulligan suggested by The Do Over will start by keeping its focus small and safely formulaic, offending no one besides those with medium standards. Hall Pass writer Kevin Barnett and Unhitched co-creator Chris Pappas have drafted a script that finds Sandler and Spade playing two losers who fake their own deaths and take on new identities, “only to find the people they’re pretending to be are in even deeper trouble.” For example, maybe they’re comic actors Adam Sandler and David Spade, coming to terms with their respective aging shtick in a movie headed straight to video.

No word on what character Paula Patton will play, or whether she will be more implausibly attracted to Sandler or Spade. But we do know that The Do Over is set to film next month in Savannah, Georgia, and provided it doesn’t, say, feature anyone in blackface, you likely won’t hear about it again until it floats to the top of your Netflix screen, you mutter, “Oh yeah, that Adam Sandler movie…,” then—like everyone involved in this deal—simply move on to something else.
