Today’s youth have figured out yet another way to make twenty- and thirtysomethings feel old: Twinklecore. This newish musical genre comes out of the Northeast and is defined as an “amalgamation between Post Rock, Math Rock, and Emo Rock,” and is noted for its “long instrumental sequences played in odd time signatures,” and that kind of guitar arrangement can result in a “twinkle”-like feel. The term’s dumb, for sure, but what’s notable about this genre is its influences. Twinkle devotees—or Twinkle Daddies (no, seriously)—worship acts like American Football, Owls, Joan Of Arc, Cap’n Jazz, and basically anything else Tim and Mike Kinsella have ever done. The more underappreciated, the better.
