Oh, Mary! director Sam Pinkleton is bringing Annie back to Broadway

Needless to say, Annie is a bit more, uh, family-oriented than either of those shows, but Pinkleton has been a vocal fan of the show for quite some time, posting on Instagram last year, “my favorite musical is annie my second favorite musical is matilda⁣” to accompany some shots in Vogue. Pinkleton’s got a pretty busy dance card at the moment, but one that might serve Annie well. In early 2027, he’ll direct another comic strip-turned-musical with the New York City Center Encores! production of You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, which is set to star David Hyde Pierce, Danielle Brooks, Jin Ha, and Ayo Edebiri as Snoopy. 

No casting information for Annie has been announced yet. (Given the ages of most of the characters in the show, much of the cast has probably just started school.) The musical was last staged on Broadway in 2012 through 2014, where the cast at one point included a then 13-year-old Sadie Sink. Perhaps this production will also discover the next Jean Grey, in time for when Marvel decides to reboot that property, too.
