Blake Lively makes a comeback in Another Simple Favor teaser

A beautiful but vicious blonde woman capable of high-level manipulation in outrageous costume couture: that describes Blake Lively’s character Emily in the Another Simple Favor teaser. The film, set to open the SXSW Festival before premiering on Prime Video on May 1, is set to be Lively’s first big project since It Ends With Us and its ensuing drama. As the teaser shows, rather than let Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) control her narrative, Emily crashes back on the scene to stir up drama of her own accord.

The movie has the distinction of being Paul Feig’s only film sequel, because he “[loves] these characters so much that I thought, ‘Well, there’s more fun to be had with them,'” he told Entertainment Weekly. But it’s hard to imagine why, after everything they went through in the first movie, Stephanie would agree to be Emily’s maid of honor—especially when Stephanie knows Emily might be seeking revenge. But Emily makes a pretty meta case for it in the Another Simple Favor teaser: “If I do try to murder you, it’ll make an amazing sequel.”

Speaking with EW, Feig teased that we’ll find out in Another Simple Favor how Emily evaded a long prison sentence for the original film’s crimes, “But let’s just say she reconnected with an old flame who has a lot of power.” (That would appear to be her fiancé Dante, played by Michele Morrone.) As for Stephanie,  “She continues to be an amateur sleuth. She’s in a slight bit of a crisis, but she still does it. She’s just coming through something in that world that backfired on her a little bit. So we’ll meet her not on top of her game,” Feig said. The women’s mutual ex Sean (Henry Golding) will also attend Emily’s wedding (to escort their son Nicky), setting up a possible reunion between him and Stephanie. “Anything can happen when what happens in Capri stays in Capri — until you see the movie,” Feig joked to EW. “But all the old relationships still burn, if you will, one way or the other.”
