James Gunn is searching for a reason for another Batman movie to exist

One of the strangest things about this next wave of superhero movies is the overlap. Marvel will re-introduce its former Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr, as Doctor Doom in its next phase of Avengers tales. Meanwhile, DC has a Bat-crisis on its hands as DC Studios co-chair James Gunn attempts to draw some distinction between Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, which is not part of his new DCU, and the DCU’s proper Bat-movie, The Brave And The Bold, reportedly based on Grant Morrison’s run of Batfamily comics. However, Gunn, who has a lot on his hands lately, tells Rolling Stone that the Dark Knight is his “biggest issue right now,” because he can’t figure out why another Batman movie should exist.
Batman is a crucial part of the DC Universe and Warner Bros. continued superhero movie business, so it’s a top priority now. Still, as Gunn put it, “Batman has to have a reason for existing, right?” Gunn’s DC doesn’t want to fart out yet another Batman movie, of which there have been more than a dozen since 2012, if one includes all the Batman spin-off movies, including two Suicide Squads, two Jokers, and the animated Lego Batman Movie. He also indicated that his DC won’t be making movies unless the script is ready (good plan) because he believes that bad, unfinished screenplays forced into production are “why the movie industry is dying.” It’s not home theaters or “people not wanting to see movies[…] The number-one reason is because people are making movies without a finished screenplay.”
