Chicago, say the magic word and see Shazam! early and for free
The days when DC superheroes weren’t allowed to have fun are now officially behind us, as Shazam! follows Aquaman into theaters, bringing a new, brighter, funnier era of the DCEU with them. Our critics Ignatiy Vishnevetsky notes that Shazam! is “directed not only at actual kids of a certain age, but also at the inner 10-year-olds of grown-up viewers raised on ’80s hits” in his review of the movie, adding that, while the movie ends up being a reliably overstuffed modern blockbuster, “what is often the most businesslike part of a superhero origin story—establishing the hero’s powers—ends up becoming the most entertaining part of Shazam!, carried along by [star Zachary] Levi’s fidgety, boyish charm.”
