Christmas At The Kringles' trailer grants Thomas Lennon's holiday wish for blood

With a title like Christmas At The Kringles, savvy holiday movie watchers might expect a standard, Hallmark-style snooze full of tinsel, good cheer, and perhaps a big city gal learning to appreciate the burly charms of a small town hunk (who may or may not actually be Santa). But the first full trailer for this film from director Kevin Lewis (Willy’s Wonderland) detonates those lowered expectations with a faux ’70s grainy exploitation vibe and gouts of blood and gore, all showering over a promising cast filled with comic character actors. (There is also quite a bit of tinsel.)

The film sees an average family, led by Ron Livingston and Rachel Bilson, moving in next door to the fanatically Christmas-obsessed Kringles, whose over-the-top holiday decorations flood the neighborhood with twinkling cheer all year long. Played by the always welcome Thomas Lennon and Arden Myrin, the Kringles are more than just into Christmas. They’re murderously fanatical about ensuring their new neighbors get into the holiday spirit, even if they have to employ Christmas-themed implements like brightly colored chainsaws, a Saw-jawed human-sized Nutcracker, and a festive Christmas gimp to enforce their singular brand of mandatory joy.

Featuring Scrubs‘ Donald Faison as a wary fellow neighbor, Rob Ruggle as a gruff, doom-saying Santa, Lennon’s The State pal David Wain, and Beverly D’Angelo (no stranger to disastrous Christmases), Christmas At The Kringles arrives under your tree on October 30, just in time for Halloween, naturally.
