Peacock to give that whole Clueless show concept another try

Alicia Silverstone will star in the new series, which has nothing to do with the last Clueless series the streamer attempted.

It’s 2025, which apparently means that every beloved title needs a sequel or prequel. Amazon MGM Studios is currently cooking up their Elle Woods origin story, and now, Peacock is doing some sort of follow-up for Legally Blonde‘s cool older cousin, Clueless

Oh, you thought the streamer was done after their first failed Clueless series? As if! Per The Hollywood Reporter, the new show has nothing to do with the series Peacock announced in 2019, which promised a Riverdale-esque plot involving Dionne (played by Stacey Dash in the movie) investigating her best friend Cher’s (originally played by Alicia Silverstone) disappearance. That series never made it to air, which is either a good or bad thing depending on your reaction to the following Deadline description: “It is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans.”

We don’t know much about the plot of this new series or whether or not it will involve oat milk lattés or tiny sunglasses. What we do know is that Alicia Silverstone will be reprising her role as Cher, so it likely won’t be set in a high school like the streamer’s last attempt. Silverstone will also serve as an executive producer on the project, which hails from writers Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, The O.C.) and Jordan Weiss (Freakier Friday). Original 1995 film director Amy Heckerling is also on board as an EP, as well as original producer Robert Lawrence.

This won’t be the first Clueless series to hit the small screen, although it will be the first to feature Silverstone. Another series featuring some of the original cast ran for three seasons from 1996-1999 on ABC and UPN. Of course, this also won’t be the first time Silverstone has pulled the yellow plaid out of her closet. She previously reprised the role for both a 2023 Super Bowl commercial and a performance of Iggy Azalea’s Clueless homage “Fancy” on Lip Sync Battle
