Crocodile Dundee's Paul Hogan no longer faces criminal investigation in Australia
Having decided that the odds of conviction are highly unlikely, Australian tax and crime investigators have dropped their five-year-long case against Crocodile Dundee star and former Oscar co-host Paul Hogan (seriously, Paul Hogan once co-hosted the Oscars). Hogan was accused of using offshore accounts to hide approximately $37.6 million in income he made from the Crocodile Dundee trilogy (seriously, Paul Hogan made more than $37.6 million for the Crocodile Dundee trilogy), a game of financial knifey-spoony that had helped him avoid paying even more millions in taxes.
While the Australian Crime Commission has ended its investigation, however, Australia’s tax office is still pursuing a multimillion-dollar tax bill, despite Hogan saying over the summer—when he was briefly detained in Australia, after attending the funeral for his 101-year-old mother—that he couldn’t even afford to pay 10 percent of the bill. Anyway, although his tax troubles have yet to disappear, the dropping of possible criminal charges has apparently provided Hogan with “immense relief,” while also making Wesley Snipes really, really jealous.
