Dads’ John Bradley takes flight on the first Cardinal Cardinal EP
Dads (the two-piece band, not the deplorable TV show) has been hard at work since the release of its 2012 album, American Radass (This Is Important). The group’s touring has been relentless (it’s currently supporting the reunited Reggie And The Full Effect), and last summer it signed to 6131 Records for the release of its Pretty Good EP. In the midst of all this, vocalist-drummer John Bradley carved out enough time to craft the Distant Lover EP, the first release under his solo moniker Cardinal Cardinal.
6131 will be releasing Distant Lover on March 18, and The A.V. Club is premiering the first of EP’s four songs, “Oh Well, Anyway.” The track introduces Cardinal Cardinal’s ornate indie-rock orchestration, with each instrumental layer highlighting Bradley’s Saddle Creek-ready efforts. Yet, for each deviation from Dads, the distinct flairs that make that band so distinct continue to shine through.
“Oh Well, Anyway” can be heard below, and pre-orders for Distant Lover can be found at 6131 Records’ store.
