The forthcoming Prime Video series also confirmed Lodge 49's Peter Ocko as showrunner.

Here’s an item that should make RoboCop fans at once apprehensive and thrilled about the prospects of a RoboCop TV show produced by Amazon: Deadline reports that Dan Stevens, the protean actor of Onslaught and Dexter: Resurrection, will gear up as RoboCop‘s Alex Murphy, the Detroit officer whose bullet-riddled corpse is reanimated into a duty-bound automaton cop, in a streaming series based on Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 film. The series boasts Lodge 49‘s Peter Ocko as showrunner, with Blumhouse’s Atomic Monster producing.  

According to the report, Stevens “quickly emerged as the leading candidate” for the stoic, monotone, steel-plated officer of the peace, prompting us to think of the countless funky possibilities the chameleonic Legion actor will bring to the character made famous by Peter Weller. Less interesting is how this Prime Video series will “take a contemporary look” at the “questions the original [raised about] technology, identity, and who corporations really serve,” as executive producer James Wan told Deadline in 2026, as we already got a clunky, lumbering version of that in the 2014 Joel Kinnaman remake, and that didn’t have Amazon’s stink wafting off of it. 

RoboCop is the latest MGM property tapped for series development by Prime Video since Amazon’s acquisition of the studio in 2022, joining the Legally Blonde prequel Elle, which has been given a season two greenlight, while notable MGM films like Barbershop, The Magnificent Seven, Fame, and Poltergeist are in various stages of development.
