Darren Aronofsky wants to make an "Unforgiven-like" movie about George Washington

Having wrested the biblical tale of Noah away from all that religious stuff, Darren Aronofsky is amassing even more famous historical figures he can reinvent with artistic license, his signature visual panache, and probably some claustrophobic framing. Rumors have swirled that he plans to direct a Judy Garland biopic with Anne Hathaway in the title role (though he’s been less than positive about that), and now Variety notes that Paramount is negotiating to acquire The General, described as Aronofsky’s “Unforgiven-like” tale of America’s first president, that drunken sonofabitch. The script hails from Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, whose previous credits on the Justin Long college comedy Accepted, the Olsen twins’ New York Minute, and Tower Heist don’t exactly speak to their abilities to craft Unforgiven-like anything. Still, “Unforgiven-like” is about as pointedly distracting a descriptor as possible and is likely only being used to drive home the idea that it will be grim in its deconstruction of myths, or refer to the fact that a British guy will get his ass kicked.
