Introducing Endless Mode: A New Games & Anime Site from Paste
Try as you might, you cannot kill Darth Maul. Obi-Wan Kenobi cut him in half at the end of The Phantom Menace, and not even that could keep him from being cybernetically resurrected. It tracks then that Disney would resurrect the character yet again for a new animated series, which the company announced at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo overnight.
This comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which shared that the title of the series will be Maul: Shadow Land. Sam Witwer will voice the character after having played the role in previous Star Wars animated series. The trade reports that those in the room in Japan got to see a trailer of the project and that the announcement was met with “rapturous ecstasy,” but didn’t offer many more details. Gizmodo reports that the trailer shows Maul taking on a young Twi’lek apprentice, before some clips of gang wars and high speed chases through a cityscape (though it sounds unclear if it’s Coruscant or not). The outlet also reports that Marrok from Ahsoka makes an appearance for what sounds like a lightsaber fight. Maul: Shadow Land will appear on Disney+ in 2026.
At this point, Darth Maul has been a feature of the Star Wars Universe for almost 26 years—more than half the history of the entire franchise. Despite his bifurcation in Episode I, he did show up again in live action for Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, seemingly setting him up for more appearances. But the live-action theatrical Star Wars films have more or less been on ice since 2019 (until last night, anyway) so the animated series route is probably the best case scenario for Ol’ Maul.
