Shock of shocks, there are now two actual Star Wars movies officially on Disney’s release calendar. Fresh off of getting reportedly blown off by Mikey Madison, the studio announced at Celebration 2025 that Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling’s Star Wars flick, now officially titled Starfighter, has been set for a May 28, 2027 release.

Plot details about the film are, of course, nil, which gives us a lot of latitude to ask stupid questions. Like: Is this an adaptation of 2002 action video game Jedi Starfighter? Will Gosling play a slightly distant but incredibly cool scoundrel who ends up saving the day while cracking a tiny, charismatic grin? Is he playing Starfighter? What’s his name? Who are his people? They gonna put Deadpool in this?

Okay, actually, the press release did reveal one pertinent detail: The film will take place five years after 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker, representing the furthest push forward the franchise has done in its timeline, at least as far as films are concerned. (It’s also being described as a “standalone adventure,” and will begin filming in the fall of 2025.) Announced by Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni—with surprise appearances by Levy and Gosling—the film joins Grogu And The Mandalorian, slated for May 22, 2026, on Disney’s blasted wasteland of a Star Wars film schedule.
