David Gordon Green prepping remake of Ice Station Zebra

Writer-director David Gordon Green works at a feverish pace spurred, by his own admission, by the fear that someone could take it all away from him at any minute. Hence every time someone talks to him—say, during the current publicity run for Your Highness, which is where The Playlist caught up with him—he tends to drop news of several different projects at once, an ever-swelling list that now reportedly includes a remake of the 1968 John Sturges thriller Ice Station Zebra, in which Rock Hudson and Ernest Borgnine engage in a literal Cold War during an Arctic rescue mission. Green didn't offer many details on what his version would look like other than it's a "big military movie," which would certainly be a departure from the character-driven, coming-of-age scripts for which he's known, unless the ice station is relocated to a small rural town, and it's actually just a metaphor for the secrets we all keep deep inside our frozen, impenetrable hearts.

According to Green, he’s only just finished the script (which he researched by actually spending time riding Navy jets and submarines in the Arctic Circle, most likely while gamely answering questions about Pineapple Express), so there’s no telling when it will actually go into production. In the meantime, of course, Green has been busy prepping that remake of Suspiria (a version so “faithful” it will include the original Goblin score), adapting the graphic novel Battling Boy for Paramount, and also dreaming up a musical about rival Ozark families in the 1960s. But when do you live, David Gordon Green? When do you live?
