Drake gives away $996,631.90 in his latest music video
Last week, Drake was in Miami, where he made headlines by giving away giant checks to high-school students and offering to pay for the groceries of an entire supermarket full of shoppers, donations worth about $175,000. Today, he released a video for his song “God’s Plan” that features footage of his charitable exploits in The Magic City. And, as it turns out, the scale of his giveaway was exponentially larger than we had estimated: As a title card that opens the video reads, “The budget for this video was $996,631,90. We gave it all away. Don’t tell the label…”
Presented by Director X, who helmed Drake’s famous 2015 “Hotline Bling” video (and the upcoming Superfly reboot) and directed by Director X’s protege Karena Evans, the video uses an artfully shot documentary style to capture Drake as he goes around the city surprising fans with hugs, gifts—and, in a few cases, large wads of cash. It’s a real heart warmer, and you can watch it above.
