Paul Atreides is not dead yet in first Dune: Part Three trailer

War often begets more war. Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) is learning this lesson the hard way in the first teaser for Dune: Part Three, which Warner Bros. shared today. “The more I fight,” he says, “the more our enemies fight back.” This is often how it goes, but this Lisan al-Gaib still has a lot to learn. Also on that list is how to be a father, as the trailer opens with Paul and Chani (Zendaya) discussing baby names. If it’s a girl, Ghanima. If it’s a boy, Leto.

Even if most of the trailer seems to fixate on the battles in Dune: Part Three, director Denis Villeneuve would classify 2024’s Dune: Part Two as the war movie of the bunch. “It’s a very different movie than the first ones. It’s a good idea to come back to those world, not by nostalgia, but by urgency,” he teased at a launch event for the trailer today in Century City, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “If the first movie was contemplation, a boy exploring a new world, and the second one is a war movie, this one is a thriller. It is action-packed and tense. More muscular.” The trailer, along with its glimpses of Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rebecca Hall, and more, certainly does look tense and muscular. The clip also offers a new score with some new chanting over it. It sounds a little bit like it might be Chalamet’s voice, or maybe it’s just EsDeeKid. In any case, Paul’s still got a lot of fighting left to do when Dune: Part Three opens on December 18, 2026.
