DVD/BD Release List – 04/27/10
The new release wall is awfully crowded this week, with a lot of worthwhile titles that shouldn’t be overlooked. For example, have you ever heard of I Love Lucy: The Movie? Cut together from existing ILL episodes at the end of Season One, but never released theatrically, I Love Lucy: The Movie has been a staple of fan conventions and even made it onto a Lucy box set, but is now available as a stand-alone disc, with copious bonus features. And did you know that the new Barbara Stanwyck box set contains two Douglas Sirk films—All I Desire and There’s Always Tomorrow—that've never been released on video domestically before? (Though be warned: the latter is a widescreen movie in a fuzzy full-screen transfer.) And if you liked the recent post-apocalyptic British TV series Survivors, you should know that you can now get the first two seasons on DVD, as well as a set containing the complete run of the mid-‘70s version of Survivors. Throw in the problematic-but-eye-popping The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, a set of Hal Hartley short films, and Criterion editions of two underrated American movies (The Fugitive Kind and Ride With The Devil… full reviews coming tomorrow), and there’s almost too much to see. You may want to save some of these for the weaker weeks soon to come.
