The mic is hot in Everybody's Live With John Mulaney trailer

John Mulaney “never wanted to host a talk show,” he admitted in January, which may explain why the talk show he did end up hosting had such an anarchic spirit. That spirit carries into the first Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney trailer, in which he sort of breaks the concept of a trailer altogether. As a drone zooms in on him standing in a dimly lit parking lot, Mulaney quibbles about the logistics of filming the promo before absurdly declaring, “Everybodys Live is on Wednesdays Live,” then puts on a pair of sunglasses like David Caruso. Then he takes them off again, like a reverse David Caruso.

We wouldn’t expect anything less silly and strange from the Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney trailer. The comedian shared the clip with the jokey declaration that it’s “The first ever celebrity sit-down talk show.” But as we know from his initial run on Everybody’s In L.A., he does do a show like no other—particularly in the current era, where the late night talk show is a dying breed. “There is absolutely nothing new about what I’m doing but, by taking a lot of elements other people have already done and doing them out of order, it feels new and that’s what’s important,” Mulaney quipped at the Next on Netflix event earlier this year.

Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney will kick off on March 12 and run for 12 consecutive weeks. Richard Kind is returning as Mulaney’s emcee, and Mulaney will co-showrun the program, executive produced by Everybody’s In L.A. co-showrunner Ashley Eden, plus Dave Ferguson and John Foy. “We will be live globally with no delay. We will never be relevant,” Mulaney promised in January. “We will never be your source of news. We will always be reckless. Netflix will always provide us with data that we will ignore.”
