It is Friday, March 14, and it’s officially a Friday that is freakier than most. Disney has just shared its first trailer for Freakier Friday, the long-teased sequel to the beloved 2003 version of Freaky Friday. If the first trailer is any indication, this new sequel is incredibly devoted to its predecessor, featuring stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis hitting the same jokes and beats that they did over two decades ago.

One thing this film has going for it that the 2003 version didn’t is the existence of Chappell Roan’s music. Otherwise, Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) are once again switching bodies, but Anna’s daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter are now in the mix. This time, both Curtis and Lohan get to play the teen trapped inside an adult body, discovering the visceral horror of aging for the very first time.

But for Curtis, it’s the second time. 2003’s film had her memorably scream “I’m like the Crypt Keeper!” upon seeing her reflection after the transformation. “My face looks like a Birkin Bag that’s been left out in the sun to rot!” she screams this time. Again, the two actors run into each other trying to switch back. Again, Lohan’s body ends up in some sort of scenario where she must play the electric guitar on a stage. Chad Michael Murray is even here, and it looks like there’s a teen girl in an adult’s body to swoon for him all over again.

2003’s Freaky Friday is not the only version of this story; originally a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, it was also adapted into a 1976 film starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris, a 1995 TV movie starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffman, and a 2018 Disney Channel musical starring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff. We’ll have to wait and see if Freakier Friday features any Easter eggs for us Barbara Harris heads when it opens in theaters on August 8, 2025.
