Since 2003 Matthew Cooper has released a wealth of material under various monikers but Eluvium has always been his main squeeze. September 2 will see the release of False Readings On via Temporary Residence Ltd., the label that’s long given Cooper’s minimalist, ambient recordings a home. The A.V. Club is premiering “Rorschach Pavan” below, a song that shows Cooper’s ability to consistently craft lengthy ambient tracks that feel both emotional and purposeful. It’s a song that establishes a simple drone and, just when it feels secure, inserts a melodic line that makes ”Rorschach Pavan” abstract, tuneful, and uplifting all at once.
