War comes home—literally—in full trailer for new HBO drama

The new trailer for HBO’s War describes the events of the series as the biggest divorce case in British history. And that’s saying something; a British monarch famously invented divorce, and several other royals have followed suit over the years. Dominic West, who stars in War, even played one of them going through what we might have previously called the biggest divorce case in British history during his time on The Crown. We’re not saying that War is wrong with this assertion, but we are saying that this kind of claim is going to take some convincing.

What we will give War is that Sienna Miller’s character is definitely dealing with some things that Princess Diana never had to deal with. For example, she didn’t have to worry about Prince Charles’ mistress posting post-coital photographs on social media. (Whether that’s worse than tampon-gate, well…) But as an official synopsis from HBO reads, the series is as much about the lawyers behind that couple as it is about the couple themselves. The series follows “the lives of London’s most powerful lawyers as firms Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne clash over a headline-grabbing legal battle, drawing ambitious young lawyer Jonathan ‘Johnny’ Warren (Archie Renaux) into a ruthless world where ambition is currency, betrayal is strategy, and winning is everything.”

War premieres on HBO on Thursday, October 1.
