Hey look, LCD Soundsystem is playing in New York this weekend
Five years ago, LCD Soundsystem played an epic three-hour farewell show at Madison Square Garden, the making of which was captured in the documentary Shut Up And Play The Hits. The band’s members then all went their separate ways, with frontman James Murphy busying himself by making songs out of tennis matches, trying to modify New York City subway turnstiles into melodies, and opening a wine bar cheerfully named The Four Horsemen. Those hobbies must have gotten old pretty quick though, because the band is reuniting in full force this year, headlining Coachella and a healthy crop of other summer festivals as well as releasing a new record. Not everyone is happy about it, but although Murphy “completely understands” and is “seriously sorry” about duping fans, he’s going to go ahead and do it anyway.
