As the late, great Kylo Ren once said, let the past die. Kill it if you have to. It’s a lesson that his portrayer Adam Driver seems to have absorbed regarding The Hunt For Ben Solo, a potential Star Wars story from the actor and Steven Soderberg that sounded like a good idea to basically everyone except Bob Iger and Alan Bergman. And, yes, it is a bummer that what we got instead was The Rise Of Skywalker and The Mandalorian And Grogu, but the dream is dead, and we should probably just let it go.
This is more or less what Driver said during a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, where he reiterated how he and Soderberg were prepared to make the film but that the powers that be at Disney “didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.” Still, Driver said (via Variety), “I always was interested in doing another Star Wars” and added that he spent a couple of years working on the project, which he maintains “was awesome” and “really cool.” He says if Disney wanted to resurrect the project, he’d still be interested, but “I think the ship has sailed though.” He appreciated how much fans were interested, though, saying, “I didn’t expect that it was going to be billboards and people flying planes over Disney and things like that. That was pretty cool.” At least Star Wars fans still have Starfighter on the horizon, along with the looming threat of a Taika Waititi-written film.
