J.J. Abrams developing Pulp Fiction-esque TV show
Picking up an idea that’s just sort of been laying there for about 15 years, J.J. Abrams is developing Pulp, an hour-long crime drama “set in a slightly heightened reality, a-la Pulp Fiction” with Fringe producers Monica Breen and Alison Schapker. Of course, plenty of action shows since the influx of John Woo and Quentin Tarantino-inspired neo-noir could be said to exist in a “heightened reality;” unflappably cool characters and stylized violence are now the status quo, after all. But it’s surprising that it took this long for someone to try deliberately linking their show to Pulp Fiction—and even more surprising that it’s ostensibly being readied for network television, considering this is what Pulp Fiction looks like on TV:
