Andy Muschietti directed the 2017 movie, which is now the highest-grossing horror film of all time; he’ll return for the sequel along with Bill Skarsgård, who plays Pennywise. The director first floated the idea of signing Chastain, who starred in his 2013 supernatural-horror film Mama, back in September. If this all works out, the Crimson Peak star will play the adult version of Bev, taking over for Sophia Lillis, who joined the Losers Club in the previous film. But don’t feel too bad for Lillis—she’s already been cast as the younger version of Amy Adams’ character in the HBO drama Sharp Objects.
The It sequel is slated for release on September 6, 2019, and production is expected to begin this summer.
