There must be few murders or true crime stories that have been covered as relentlessly and constantly as that of JonBenét Ramsey, the child pageant queen murdered on Christmas Day 1996. But a version of this story that doesn’t yet exist is a dramatized retelling where Ramsey’s parents are played by Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen. We won’t be able to say that for much longer, however, as Netflix just released a first-look image from the new series billed as just that. 

The official synopsis for The Murder Of JonBenét Ramsey reads: 

The series centers on one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history, and the devastating personal and public reckoning that followed the death of JonBenet Ramsey on Christmas night in 1996.

Ramsey’s murder was previously covered in the Netflix documentary Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey. The new series will also star Emily Mitchell as JonBenét, with Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Shea Whigham, Owen Teague, Clifton Collins Jr.,  Angus Caldwell, and Jaime Ray Newman rounding out the main cast. Other names that will appear in the series include Will Patton and Margo Martindale. The series premieres on Netflix on December 10.
