Kelly Clarkson reportedly wants out of her talk show

Kelly Clarkson has made a name for herself covering other artists’ songs in recent years, but now, someone may have to step in and cover for her. According to a new report from Page Six, the singer-turned-talk-show-host may be looking to end her eponymous daytime series when her contract with NBC expires next year.

Sources tell the outlet that Clarkson is looking to spend more time with her two children, ages 10 and 8, while NBC is scrambling to keep her on the network. “Kelly’s number one priority is her children, and they always will be,” one source shared. “The show is grueling. It’s a whole lot of work, and I hear that Kelly would like to spend more time down South.”

Clarkson moved to New York from Los Angeles—taking The Kelly Clarkson Show with her—in 2023, at the time stating that the West Coast city made her feel “lonely” and she “never wanted to live there in the first place.” She also cited the fact that her family lived on the East Coast as a factor in her decision, but it sounds like the artist, who grew up in Texas, may want to spend time even closer to home.

Clarkson did take a short, two-week hiatus from the show last month due to a “personal matter that does not directly involve her,” as originally reported by TMZ. Guest hosts during that time included Andy Cohen, Simu Liu, and Kal Penn, before Clarkson returned on March 18. While the host didn’t disclose the reason for her break, she did give an emotional speech upon her return. “We have laughed together, we have cried together with beautiful stories, sang together with some people, danced together, celebrated and competed together,” she said, per Page Six, before adding, “I’ve lost, alone, a lot.” She quickly reassured her audience that “It’s okay!” and thanked them for “creat[ing] a community and support[ing] each other through a lot of ups and downs,” but again admitted that she’d experienced “a lot of ups and downs personally as well” since the show launched in 2019. Soon, we may see what a Kelly Clarkson show looks like without Kelly Clarkson.
