Kendall and Kylie Jenner apologize for lazily slapping their own faces over “vintage” music shirts

Kendall and Kylie Jenner have issued an apology today, pulling a series of controversial (and expensive) T-shirts from various retailers. People’s complaints about the shirts centered less on their $100+ price tag, though—it’s 2017, and paying a hundred bucks to wear Kendall Jenner’s face on your torso is just what people do—but on the fact that the Jenners superimposed, sans permission, their likenesses over classic photos and logos by artists like Tupac Shakur, Ozzy Osbourne, and The Notorious B.I.G.

It’s not clear what message the Jenners were trying to send with the shirts—beyond “Our buddy Dave’s really into Photoshop right now”—but the mockery came at them with a quickness. The artists in question—or their estates, in the case of those who are dead—noted that nobody had asked them about using the musicians’ likenesses, while others simply pointed out the sloppiness of the actual work.

Bowing to the public pressure, the sisters issued an apology today, announcing the the shirts would be pulled from stores. Meanwhile, if people are still mad about Kylie and Kendall’s efforts to literally cover up the artists of the past with their own unique brand of celebrity, maybe they can mollify them with a nice cold can of Pepsi.
