Odom originated the part of Aaron Burr and went on to win both a Tony and a Grammy for his performance of songs like “Wait For It” and “The Room Where It Happens” the following year. He’s currently set for a limited run from September 9 through November 23—his first time onstage at the Richard Rogers Theatre since originally leaving the production in July 2016.
“Returning to Hamilton is a deeply meaningful homecoming,” the actor said in a press release, per Variety. “I’m so grateful for the chance to step back into the room—especially during this anniversary moment and to revisit this brilliant piece that forever changed my life and the lives of so many.”
The musical’s impact on Odom’s career is notable. Since departing with writer and co-star Lin-Manuel Miranda nine years ago, the actor has gone on to star in several films and TV shows, including Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, One Night In Miami…, The Many Saints Of Newark, The Exorcist: Believer, and Abbott Elementary. He also earned another Tony nomination for his performance in Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through The Cotton Patch, a 2023 stage play.
“When I saw Leslie perform ‘The Room Where It Happens’ at the first act two workshop of Hamilton, I knew I was witnessing a historic moment,” said Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller. “How lucky we are that Leslie is returning to Hamilton and bringing his indelible Burr back to Broadway.” If you missed your shot to see him the first time around, tickets for Odom’s return are on sale now.
