Lisa Edelstein not returning to House

While Fox’s medical drama House will get one more, probably final season to wrap up any lingering storylines that somehow slipped past the show’s vigilance about always resetting itself, it seems like at least one of those threads has already been resolved: Lisa Edelstein—a.k.a Cuddy, whose tempestuous romance with House was one of the few plot arcs allowed to live for more than a few episodes—has decided not to return. Deadline reports that the actress balked at taking a pay cut (albeit one that still would have left her with around $2 million) and simply walked away, saying in a statement, “After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead.” Her departure leaves Olivia Wilde (who’s already got plenty of new acting opportunities of her own that will eat up a lot of her time) as the only regular female cast member. On the other hand, it also means the retirement of that asinine “Huddy” sobriquet.
