Listen to a song from Exit Verse, the new band from Karate’s Geoff Farina
During its time together, Karate displayed how diverse interests could meld together to form an indie-rock band that could never quite be pinned down. Since Karate’s dissolution, band leader Geoff Farina has released solo albums that saw him trade his post-rock leanings for something decidedly lighter. In 2013, he formed Exit Verse, featuring other indie-rock elder statesmen such as Chisel’s John Dugan and Tight Phantomz’ Pete Croke.
The A.V. Club is premiering “Seeds” from Exit Verse’s self-titled debut album, which will be released on November 17. The track sees Farina guiding the band into some classic-rock territory with his stomping staccato riffs, but as it moves forward and reaches its ethereal apex it shows Farina’s ability to take something gut-level and make it heady, just like he did so well with Karate over a decade ago.
