Matthew McConaughey and Nic Pizzolatto might be plotting True Detective’s return

Last month, HBO drew a collective sigh of relief when it announced that a third season of True Detective was highly unlikely. The pay-cable network probably realized that following that bleak second act would prove to be a fruitless endeavor. Series creator Nic Pizzolatto had enough trouble weaving another web of crime for a different set of melancholy investigators anyway, so a third season didn’t sound very appealing. But that hasn’t stopped Pizzolatto and his season one star, Matthew McConaughey, from talking about bringing the show back. As McConaughey revealed on The Rich Eisen Show, he’s eager to reprise his role as Rust Cohle.
