Fresh on the heels of his 2013 refresh of old Soul Coughing material, Mike Doughty is once again using PledgeMusic to fund an upcoming LP. This time, Doughty is asking fans to pre-purchase copies of Stellar Motel, which is being produced by (seriously) “DJ Good Goose.” Doughty’s also offering a copy of Live At Ken’s House, an album he recorded live (obviously) while touring those updated Soul Coughing tracks.
As is usually the case with this kind of Kickstarter/Indiegogo/PledgeMusic stuff, fans have numerous incentives for kicking in bucks, from advance glimpses at Doughty’s recording process to an IBM Selectric typewriter he autographed. But perhaps best of all is the top-tier offer: For a mere $10,000, fans can purchase the original, handwritten lyrics to “True Dreams Of Wichita” or “Janine,” both of which Doughty recently found in an old notebook from 1991.
