Mission: Impossible’s Paula Patton to star in gunrunning cartel pilot for ABC
Paula Patton has signed on for a new ABC project that’s like Traffic, but with guns, according to Deadline. In Runner, one of a handful of dramas ABC has picked up this season, Patton plays Lauren Marks, a woman who thinks her husband died in a plane crash—until she learns that he is not only alive, but is traveling with a mystery woman who has assumed Lauren’s identity. This being a TV show and all, this revelation leads Lauren down a rabbit hole of secrets, lies, and eventually Mexican gunrunning.
Michael Offer (Homeland, Person of Interest, How To Get Away With Murder) is directing the pilot, based on a Turkish television series called Son. The script will be provided by writer Michael Cooney (Jack Frost, Jack Frost 2). The 20th TV and ABC Studios series is the first major series commitment for the Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol alum, who is better known for her big-screen roles in films like Idlewild, Precious, Jumping the Broom, Hitch, and Déjà Vu than television appearances.
