Modern-day boy band One Direction inspires a toddler dance party
In Hear This, A.V. Club writers sing the praises of songs they know well—some inspired by a weekly theme and some not, but always songs worth hearing. This week: What’s one of your favorite songs to dance to?
I’ll confess that I’ve never been much of a dancer, having never in my life really attempted it—or attempted any sort of coherent version of it, anyway. I never went to a high-school dance (by choice, bro!), and even at weddings I tend to stick to the sidelines and take notes. But when your 2-year-old son—who only heard One Direction because you were curious if he’d react to it—insists that you have a “dance party” while listening to the boy band’s “Up All Night,” you kind of have to. And by “you,” I mean “me.” I’m not sure if it’s just my son’s love of One Direction that makes me find it not horrible, or if it’s actually just inoffensive fun. Either way, I am required to dance to it. Thankfully, the moves are simple: He spins around in a circle until he falls down, and I just sort of shake my hands and hips around. It’s pretty damn fun—maybe I should’ve taken it up sooner.
