3 new songs and 3 new albums to check out this weekend

Welcome to our weekly music post, where we spotlight our favorite new songs and albums. Hop in the comments and tell us: What new music are you listening to?

Thundercat and Remi Wolf, “Children Of The Baked Potato”

A collaboration between Thundercat and Remi Wolf makes some intuitive sense, with their shared senses of humor and proclivity for funk. “Children Of The Baked Potato” definitely falls more on the side of “Thundercat song” than “Remi Wolf” song, but she slides into the frantic jazz instrumentation easily, bringing a throaty new layer to his sound.

Frog, “SAX-A-MA-PHONE VAR. XII”

In 1997, Homer Simpson introduced his daughter to the sax-a-ma-phone, and the effects are still felt today. New York-based band Frog don’t play the instrument (or the saxophone) in their new single “SAX-A-MA-PHONE VAR. XII,” but they do make pretty creative use of the piano. The result lands like Supertramp as Tommy Richmond might imagine it. Their album The Count is out today as well.

The Lemonheads, “Togetherness Is All I’m After”

It’s been six years since The Lemonheads’ last album, but they’re giving us a pretty good taste of it ahead of time. “Togetherness Is All I’m After,” the fourth single from the forthcoming album The Chant, begins dissonant but quickly settles into an almost-mellow groove focused on the passing of time. Love Chant is out on October 24.

Cardi B, Am I The Drama?

Cardi B has released plenty of music since her debut album Invasion Of Privacy—”WAP” may be a rare moment of monoculture in the 2020s, and many more singles followed it—but it’s been a while since we’ve gotten a full-length project from one of rap’s most charismatic figures. And like Invasion Of Privacy, Cardi remains committed to hopping between genres, trends, and eras. Pre-release single “Imaginary Playerz” directly references the Jay-Z track of (almost) the same name, and Cardi taps emergent talents from the drill (Cash Cobain), Latin (Lourdiz) and afrobeats (Tyla) scenes. And with the presence of major pop stars like Selena Gomez, Lizzo, and Janet Jackson, Am I The Drama? promises to be, at the very least, huge.

Black Lips, Season Of The Peach

Black Lips actually have two albums arriving today—Season Of The Peach and Bebop Armageddon—with the latter described as “Detours and Offcuts” from the former. The band has been teasing Season Of The Peach for a few months, releasing three singles ahead of last month’s “Kassandra,” a fun garage rock cut with the slightest hint of surf. All of the other singles have been pretty solid, too, so there should be plenty to discover in all the new music Black Lips share today.

Benny Sings, Beat Tape III

Benny Sings’ music has been lumped in with the yacht rock revival (at least by Spotify), which is not an unreasonable assessment. The Dutch musician’s work tends to be smooth if a bit softer than, say, the Doobie Brothers. While Benny Sings has been fairly productive in 2025, only one of those singles actually landed on Beat Tape III, leaving the opportunity for plenty—fine, some—of surprise.
