Nick Reiner won't face the death penalty for his parents' deaths

Los Angeles District Attorney’s office won’t seek the death penalty against Nick Reiner, who stands accused of killing his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, last December. DA Nathan Hochman, who spoke to reporters outside in downtown Los Angeles this morning, per Deadline, cited a “rigorous review” of “aggravating” and “mitigating factors” within the case, as well as input from prosecutors, law enforcement, and senior members of the DA’s office, to determine that the death penalty would be inappropriate. Hochman said that conversations with Reiner’s siblings, Jake, Romy, and step-sister Tracy were taken “into consideration in ultimately deciding not to seek the death penalty.” At most, Reiner now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole. Reiner was charged shortly after his parents’ bodies were found and pleaded not guilty to the crime last month.
