Odd Future making a pilot for Adult Swim
The members of blog-championed rap collective Odd Future have already transcended mere beats and rhymes to become veritable living icons—both symbols to a jaded commentariat for how music still has the capability to surprise, and walking cartoon characters known for just fucking shit up. So it’s perhaps not surprising that the group is already considering branching out into other areas of entertainment with a pilot for Adult Swim. According to the group’s typically awestruck cover story in Billboard (as pointed out by Pitchfork), Odd Future is producing what its management calls “a mixture of Jackass and Chappelle's Show” for the network—so, astute observations about racism, followed by nut-punches—that will presumably be a more professional version of the comedy skits that it sometimes posts to its Tumblr page. Even if the fascination with Odd Future is already dangerously tipping toward premature exhaustion, this definitely has promise, if only because the sole bar it has to clear is Method & Red.
