The Overlook Film Festival returns from the dead next month, bringing a weekend of horror to the hometown of the Haunted Mansion: New Orleans. Holing up at the Prytania Theatres, Overlook brings a wide range of terrifying delights to America’s most haunted city, with a mix of classic and new horror movies, interactive events, immersive programming, and special guests—not to mention 47 horror movies.
The fest starts on April 3 with Drop, starring Meghann Fahy. Directed by Happy Death Day’s Christopher Landon, Drop follows a widowed mother on her first date in years, who gets trapped in a deadly who-droped-it as she receives mysterious and threatening Airdrops on her phone throughout her night out. Overlook will also play David Cronenberg’s latest The Shrouds, Babak Anvai’s Hallow Road, and R.T. Thorne’s 40 Acres.
Overlook will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight by awarding director Ernest Dickerson the festival’s Master of Horror Award. Additionally, the Fest will screen the 40th anniversary 4K restoration of Re-Animator and host a 100th-anniversary screening of 1925’s The Phantom Of The Opera, accompanied by a live score from Think Less, Hear More. Filmmaker and Grammy winner Flying Lotus will also curate a selection of personal favorites and genre classics, including The Descent, Death Becomes Her, and Lost Highway.
The Overlook Film Festival runs from April 3 through April 6, and the films and events included in this first wave of announcements are below. Passes are on sale now, with individual tickets available starting March 25. For more information on tickets, events, movies, and places to stay, visit The Overlook Film Festival website.
